Description

Calcium Gluconate Gel, consisting of 2.5% Calcium Gluconate USP in a clear viscous, colourless and odourless water-soluble lubricant, is essential in first aid and primary treatment of hydrofluoric acid burns of the skin.
It provides a source of calcium ions to replace those precipitated or immobilised by fluoride ions following a hydrofluoric acid burn. This allows healing and prevents further damage to tissue or bone.
Calcium Gluconate Gel can be used to initially treat burns, prior to seeking proper and immediate medical care. It is not recommended for burns with concentrated hydrofluoric acid, except as an initial first-aid measure.

Directions For Use

  1. Remove contaminated clothing and flush the skin thoroughly with cool water for 15 minutes to remove hydrofluoric acid surface residue.
  2. Apply gel repeatedly and massage into tissues until 15 minutes after pain has subsided. If possible, the victim should wash the area and apply the gel themselves. If assistance is required, support personnel should wear appropriate chemical-resistant gloves.
  3. Cover with sterile dressing.
  4. Seek urgent medical attention.
